Best Exquisite of Bowl Pond Lotus

Exquisite of Bowl Pond Lotus are quickly becoming popular with water gardeners across the country. Exquisite of Bowl pond lotus are small, easy to grow and care for and are quite beautiful. Exquisite of Bowl pond lotus are not always suitable for the pond as they are quite small, no taller than 14". They are best planted in containers and placed in full sun on the deck or patio where they can easily be seen and enjoyed!

All Exquisite of Bowl Lotus are small, making them the perfect choice for bowls or containers in your water garden setting. You can purchase single or multi-petal varieties in all color ranges from reds, pinks, whites, yellows, versicolor and changeables.

Containers

Container size is important. We recommend you purchase a 16" in diameter by 7" deep container that can be placed in the ground or on the surface of a table on deck or patio. We recommend planting two of the same variety pond lotus tuber in your container, but this is not always cost-effective for the consumer. When planting your lotus tuber, use a combination of loam and clay soil (not potting soil) and keep the growth tips exposed. Add an inch or two of water over the soil and place container in full sun. In a week or two you will see coin leaves on the surface of the water. DO NOT FERTILIZE! Fertilizing at this stage of growth will kill your lotus tuber. Wait until you have several aerial leaves growing out of the water to fertilize.

Fertilize

Fertilize your Exquisite of Bowl lotus during the growing/blooming season. We recommend that you cut the fertilizer dosage in half with your initial fertilizer application. We recommend you purchase Waterlily World Fertilizer Tabs + Humates. Once your Exquisite of Bowl pond lotus has aerial leaves, use 1 - 2 Fertilizer Tabs + Humates per month for the first month, then 3 - 4 Fertilizer Tabs + Humates every three weeks, for the rest of the growing/blooming season. You may also add 1 teaspoon of epsom salt to your container to help keep leaves green. NEVER add water soluble Nitrogen to your pond lotus or you will burn it up.

Water

Always keep your water levels checked as the water may evaporate quickly!

Divide

Divide your lotus tuber after the second year as you will have too much root mass in the pot. When you begin to prepare your plants for winter, always trim your lotus leaves above the water level as the stems are hollow, if you cut the stems below the water level, the lotus tuber will drown. You may over-winter your Exquisite of Bowl pond lotus in a shallow area of your pond, below the freeze line.

NOTE: An exciting way to add beauty to your flower bed or water garden feature is to place your Exquisite of Bowl pond lotus in a container in the ground. To do this, you must dig a hole slightly larger than the container you will be using. Make sure the site is located in full sun. Insert the container into the hole and add a few inches of heavy loam topsoil. Carefully plant your pond lotus tuber, keeping the growth tips exposed. Add two or three inches of water above the soil. Keep water levels maintained throughout the growing/blooming season. Fertilize as per instructions above. Your pond lotus should bloom the very first year. ENJOY!
