Our mission is to make growing lotus and pond plants better for everyone, so we decided to create a store that would support water gardeners like you.
Over the years we have learned what the most common questions are from talking with customers, along with what misconceptions have been picked up and spread across the internet.
This site should help you on your journey as a water gardener, in particular, a successful grower of Lotus. Listed by size, we have over 250 varieties of Lotus available, but more importantly, guides to most of your questions.

The Latin name for Lotus is 'nelumbo' so all hybrids are considered, Nelumbo 'followed by the common name'. Example: Nelumbo 'Beautiful Dancer', or Nelumbo 'Giant Sunburst'. The word Nelumbo in the name is often just abbreviated to N.
We hope the website helps you as you continue your Lotus journey. We're rooting for you!
The lotus here are just part of a larger aquatic plant supply spread over four growing facilities. The other three nurseries grow common aquatic plants like hardy water lilies, native marginal plants, and tropical plants at the southern most facility. Each nursery has its own specialized, growing plants. Our two main websites (East and West) sell the entire collection of plants from all four nurseries but the plants will ship separately from the locations in which they grow based on what you order. PondLotus.com was setup in 2016 to lower the cost a little for those just wanting Lotus tubers, as we can be certain everything on this site will ship from this smaller farm.
Since 1990, we have been immersed in the water garden world. Throughout the years we have traveled the globe and made world-wide connections with hybridizers and collaborators internationally, to bring you the best sacred lotus and pond plants in the world!
We have consulted experts regarding the growth and care of these exotic plants from many countries and many cultures.
Our passion is to bring you, our customer, the most exciting and unique sacred lotus and pond plants the world has to offer, along with cutting edge knowledge of HOW to grow these beautiful varieties!
We are here to supply you with the best hybrid sacred lotus tubers and the knowledge to grow them successfully. We provide tips and information on how to grow, fertilize, propagate and over-winter the lotus that you purchase. Be assured that your sacred lotus tubers will arrive with two or more growth tips.
As of 2007, all of our sacred lotus are true to name and grown in the United States. They are grown at the Alabama growing facility. The tubers are best kept and cared for at the harvesting location and refrigeration station. We ship all lotus separate from the other plants, usually sooner than the other plants, as you can keep them in the crisper of your refrigerator until planting time. We, here at Pondlotus.com, can offer discounted lotus tubers direct from the farm, if you do not need other goods or plants. If you do need containers, fertilizer and other plants as well as lotus, it may be best to order from our larger locations, although shipping will be charged from those sites. You will be getting multiple shipments, if ordering from the larger venues, as lotus still will still ship from the Alabama lotus farm.
