Lotus Plant Description

Highest Virtue Lotus is an elegant, sacred lotus, with just a breath of color over 1st day blooms and a hint of violet-purple on the tips of the petals on 2nd and 3rd day blooms. Simply magnificent!  The green receptacle is surrounded by green petaloids on this lovely lotus adding drama and interest to the plate-shaped, lotus blooms! The dark green foliage is a nice contrast to the pastel, wide petal, lotus flowers. Highest Virtue Lotus will add elegance and grace to any sunny water garden.

Lotus Planting Instructions

Lotus tubers can be kept in the crisper of your refrigerator until proper planting time. Your sacred lotus tuber should be planted by the month of May, in consistently warm weather, after all danger of frost has passed. Plant in a wide (24-48 inch or wider), shallow container using heavy loam soil. Dig a trench in the soil and place the lotus tuber in the trench, being careful not to break or damage the growth tips. Cover the tuber with soil while leaving the growth tips exposed. Add a few inches of water above the soil and place your lotus tuber in a sunny location outdoors. In a week or two you should have coin leaves on the surface of the water. A week or ten days later, you should have aerial leaves growing out of the water. Once you have aerial leaves, it is time to fertilize your lotus plant.

Lotus Fertilizing Instructions

Lotus are very heavy feeders! We recommend Waterlily World Fertilizer Tabs + Humates for optimum growth, best bloom and ease of use. Simply press the fertilizer tabs into the soil near the roots of your lotus being careful not to damage the roots. Do this once a month during the growing/blooming season (June through September). Your lotus should grow and bloom the very first year!
