Lotus Plant Description

White Buddha's Hand has delicate, pure white flowers that radiate peace and grace. This bowl lotus will flourish in a small bowl and produce flowers throughout the summer. We recommend "White Buddha's Hand" as a substitute for "Xiamen Bowl" because the plants and flowers are the same size but this one seems to be much easier to grow.

How do I plant my lotus?

Plant your lotus tuber in a wide (10 inches or wider), no holes container that is half full of heavy loam soil. Once you have added your heavy loam soil to the container, dig a trench on the top of the soil and place your lotus tuber in the trench, being careful not to damage the growth tips. Make sure the growth tips are facing up and slowly add a few inches of water above the soil. Place your container in an area that receives at least 8 hours of sunlight per day. DO NOT FERTILIZE. In a week or two you will have coin leaves on the surface of the water, once those coin leaves have changed to aerial leaves growing out of the water, you may fertilize your lotus.

How and When do I fertilize my lotus?

Wait until your lotus has aerial leaves to begin to fertilize your lotus. If you fertilize too early, you may stunt or kill your lotus. We recommend Waterlily World Fertilizer Tabs for optimum growth, best bloom and ease of use. Simply press the tabs into the soil near the roots of your lotus. Do this  once each month from June through September, making your last fertilizer application in September.
