A Fortune in Flowers (Hua Kai Fugui in Chinese)
If you are looking for a centerpiece for your water garden feature, look no further. A Fortune in Flowers is an impressive, double-petal lotus with magnificent color and a profusion of bloom after incredible bloom! This versicolor lotus is cream colored with a blush of pink over the petals with rosy kissed outer tips and green tipped inner petals. The receptacle is green with lustrous, opalescent anthers. A SPECTACULAR SHOWSTOPPER in every way! This tall specimen will add the WOW factor you are looking for when planted in a very large, wide container on your patio or in your pond! The rose-mauve buds are striking as well.
Plant your lotus tuber in a very large, wide (24-48 inches or wider), no holes container using heavy loam soil. Once you have added your heavy loam soil to the container, dig a trench on the top of the soil and place your lotus tuber in the trench, being careful not to damage the growth tips. Make sure the growth tips are facing up and slowly add a few inches of water above the soil. Place your container in an area that receives at least 8 hours of sunlight per day. DO NOT FERTILIZE. In a week or two you will have coin leaves on the surface of the water, once those coin leaves have changed to aerial leaves growing out of the water, you may fertilize your lotus.
Mark your calendar for the 1st and 15th of the month and fertilize your lotus with 4-6 Waterlily World Fertilizer Tabbs Plus Humates for vigorous growth and best bloom.
