Lotus Plant Description

A Sacred Lotus is a type of lotus, not a specific cultivar. Sacred Lotus are tall, classic, single-petals lotus adorned wit, pink or white with pink-tipped petals that may fade to white on second and third day blooms. Sacred Pink Lotus are revered in many countries throughout the world. While exuding beauty and grace, the lotus flower itself symbolizes the seat of Buddha as well as many Hindu deities. The Sacred Pink Lotus symbolizes purity, peace, devotion as well as new beginnings.

Lotus Planting Instructions

Plant your SacredPink  Lotus in a very wide (24 - 48 inches wide), shallow container using heavy loam soil. Dig a trench in the soil and gently place your lotus tuber in the trench, being careful not to break or damage the growth tips. Cover all but the growth tips with an inch or two of soil, gently add a few inches of water above the soil and place your lotus in full sun (8+ hours per day). In a week or so you should have coin leaves on the surface of the water. A week or ten days from having coin leaves you should have aerial leaves growing out of the water. Once you have aerial leaves, you may begin to fertilize your Sacred Pink Lotus Plant.

Lotus Fertilizing Instructions

Lotus are very heavy feeders. We recommend Waterlily World Fertilizer Tabs for optimum growth, best bloom and easy of use. Simply press the fertilizer tabbs into the soil near the roots of your lotus, taking care not to damage the roots. Do this once a month, throughout the growing/blooming  season, June through August. Your Sacred Lotus should grow and bloom the very first year!

 Lotus Tips:

  • You may keep your lotus tuber in the crisper of your refrigerator until proper planting time for your area.
  • Wait until the nights are consistently warm, 45 degrees or above, and the days consistently in the 70's or above to plant your lotus.
  • Never fertilize your lotus until after you have aerial leaves growing out of the water.
