Lotus Plant Description

Purple Gold Lotus is a lovely lotus with lotus flowers in shades of pink with subtle, violet-purple overtones. The multi-petals lotus blooms are usually adorned with golden bubbled carpels and the emerald-green foliage is the perfect complement for this spectacular lotus. Purple Gold Lotus is classified as a red lotus but the pastel shades are dreamy in heavenly shades of pink.

Lotus Planting Instructions

Plant your lotus tuber in a wide, shallow, no holes container (14 - 48 inches wide). Using loam soil, fill your container 2/3 full. Dig a shallow trench across the surface of the soil and gently place your lotus tuber in the trench. Cover all but the growth tips with an inch or two of soil, leaving the growth tips exposed. Add 3 - 4 inches of water above the soil and place in a sunny area outdoors (8 - 12 hours of sunlight daily). In a week or so you should have coin leaves on the surface of the water, a week or so after that you should have aerial leaves growing out of the water. Do not fertilize until you have aerial leaves growing out of the water.

Lotus Fertilizing Instructions

Once you have aerial leaves you may fertilize your lotus. We recommend a slow release fertilizer like 'Waterlily World Fertilizer Tabs' for optimum growth, best bloom and ease of use. Simply press the tabs into the soil near the roots of your lotus plants, taking care not to damage the roots. Do this once each month from June through September.

Please see our 'Complete Lotus Guide' included with your lotus purchase.
