Lotus Planting Instructions

Lotus should be planted by the month of May, after all danger of frost has passed and when the weather is consistently warm. (Lotus may be stored in the crisper of your refrigerator until proper planting time in your area). Plant this delightful sacred lotus in a wide, shallow container (at least 18 - 30 inches wide or wider), using heavy loam soil. Dig a trench in the soil and place the lotus tuber in the trench being careful not to damage the growth tips. Cover the tuber with soil while leaving the growth tips exposed and add four inches of water above the soil. Place your lotus container in a sunny location outdoors (Lotus need 8+ hours of sunlight to grow and bloom). In a week or so your lotus will have coin leaves on the surface of the water, a week or two after that your sacred lotus plant will have aerial leaves growing out of the water. Once your lotus plant has aerial leaves, it is time to fertilize.

Lotus Fertilizing Instructions

Lotus plants are very heavy feeders! We recommend WATERLILY WORLD FERTILIZER TABS + HUMATES for optimum growth, best bloom and ease of use. Simply press four fertilizer tabs into the soil near the roots of your lotus plant being careful not to damage the roots. Do this once a month throughout the growing/blooming season. Your sacred lotus plant should grow and bloom the very first year!
