Ignite some excitement in your pond or on your patio this year with 'Flame' lotus. Fiery shades of orange-red, red and yellow on long, slender, pointed petals enhance the beauty of this unique and unusual lotus. Color really sizzles! The warm tones in the petal color complement the attractive green foliage beautifully!
Plant this lovely specimen in a wide (18-30 inches) or wider, shallow container using heavy loam soil. Dig a trench across the surface of the soil and place the lotus tuber in the trench, being careful not to damage the growth tips. Cover the tuber with an inch or two of soil while keeping the growth tips exposed. Add two to four inches of water over the surface of the soil and place the container outdoors in full sun (8+ hours of sunlight daily). In a week or two you will have aerial leaves growing on the surface of the water. DO NOT FERTILIZE! In a week or two after the coin leaves appear, you will have aerial leaves growing out of the water, once you have aerial leaves, you may fertilize once a month from June through September, as these are the growing/blooming months of a lotus. Simple press four (4) fertilizer tabbs into the soil (about one inch deep) of the lotus, being careful not to damage the roots.
