Lotus Planting Instructions

Plant your lotus tuber in an 18 - 30 inch or wider, shallow, no-holes container using heavy loam soil. Fill the container 3/4 full with loam soil and dig a shallow trench across the surface of the soil. Gently place your lotus tuber in the trench, taking care not to bruise or damage the growth tips. Cover all but the growth tips with an inch of soil. Gently add 2 - 4" of water above the soil and place container where your lotus will receive at least 10 - 12 hours of sunlight per day. In a week or so you should have coin leaves on the surface of the water. DO NOT fertilize your lotus until you have aerial leaves growing out of the water. Once you have aerial leaves, you may fertilize your lotus.

Lotus Fertilizing Lotus

Lotus plants are very heavy feeders. We recommend Waterlily World Fertilizer Tabs + Humates for robust growth and best bloom! Your lotus plant should grow and bloom the very first year! Simply press two or three tabs into the soil near the roots of your lotus, being careful not to damage the roots. Do this once a month throughout the growing/blooming season (June through September).
