Dig a shallow trench on the surface of the soil and place your sacred lotus tuber in the trench. Take care not to break or damage the growth tips. Cover all but the growth tips with an inch of soil and gently add 3 - 4 inches of water above the soil. Place your sacred lotus container in a sunny area outdoors (8 - 12 hours of sunlight daily). Do not fertilize your lotus plant until you have aerial leaves growing out of the water.
