Lotus Plant Description

Chinese Red Shaoshan Lotus is a remarkable brilliant-red lotus with beautiful red blooms. The long, rosy-red petals form lush, elegant lotus flowers on the Chinese Red Shaoshan Lotus plant, and the flowers have a beautiful drape! Sacred Chinese Red Shaoshan Lotus will be a splendid addition to your outdoor living space this year!

How to plant your red lotus tuber

Plant your red lotus tuber in a wide (24 - 48 inches wide or wider), no-holes container using loam soil. Fill your container 2/3 full of loam soil. Dig a shallow trench across the surface of the soil and gently place your sacred lotus tuber in the trench. Cover all but the growth tips with one or two inches of soil, while keeping the growth tips exposed. Gently add 5 - 6 inches of water above the soil and place in a sunny location outdoors where the lotus will receive 8 - 12 hours of sunlight daily.

How to fertilize your lotus plant

Once your lotus has aerial leaves growing out of the water, it is time to fertilize your lotus plant. We recommend Waterlily World Fertilizer Tabs for optimum growth and best bloom! The first dose of fertilizer should be 1/2 the recommended dosage. The second dose of fertilizer should be administered two weeks after the first dose, using the recommended dosage. Fertilize your lotus once each month throughout the growing/blooming season with the final dose in early September. This will allow your lotus to go into dormancy naturally.

Please see our 'Complete Lotus Planting Guidelines' which are included in your sacred lotus order!
