Lotus Planting Instructions
Plant this exquisite, tall lotus specimen in a wide (24-48 inches wide, or wider), shallow container using heavy loam soil. Dig a trench in the soil and carefully place your lotus tuber in the trench, taking care not to break or damage the growth tips. Cover the tuber with soil while keeping the growth tips exposed. Add four to six inches of water above the soil and place your lotus container in a sunny location outdoors. Lotus need 8+ hours of sunlight to grow and bloom. In a week or two you should have aerial leaves growing on the surface of the water. A week or two after that you should have aerial leaves growing out of the water. Once you have aerial leaves, it is time to fertilize your lotus.
Lotus Fertilizing Instructions
Fertilize your lotus once a month during the growing/blooming season (June through September). Lotus are very heavy feeders. We recommend Waterlily World Fertilizer Tabbs + Humates for optimum growth, best bloom and ease of use. Simply press four to six fertilizer tabbs in the soil near the roots of your lotus, taking care not to damage the roots. Your lotus should grow and bloom the very first year!
Please Note:
Lotus tubers should be planted when nights are consistently warm and days are warmer, after all danger of frost has passed. (Lotus tubers can be kept in the crisper of your refrigerator until proper planting time for your area) Please see our 'Complete Lotus Guide', shipped with your lotus order!
