Lotus Plant Description

Tiny Red Gulang Lotus is a delightful lotus in every way! Tiny Red Gulang Lotus is named for a county in the Gansu Province in China. This little, red lotus changes color each day from red 1st day blooms to pink and then to white. This lotus is a 'Bowl' lotus and grows to 18 inches tall. The red, single-petal blooms look delightful in containers or at the shallow end of your pond or in small ornamental containers on your patio or deck!

How to plant your lotus

Choose a  11 - 16 inches wide, shallow, no-holes container for your lotus and fill it 2/3 full with loam soil. Dig a shallow trench on the surface of the soil and gently place your lotus tuber in the trench. Cover all but the growth tips with an inch of soil while leaving the growth tips exposed. Add 1 - 2 inches of water above the tuber and place in a sunny area outdoors where the plant will receive 8 - 12 hours of sunlight daily. Watch the water level closely as the water will evaporate quickly on warm days. Replenish any water that has evaporated with warm water. Do not fertilize your lotus until you have aerial leaves.

How to fertilize your lotus

Do not fertilize your lotus until you have aerial leaves. We recommend a slow release fertilizer like 'Waterlily World Fertilizer Tabs' for optimum growth and best bloom!

Please see our complete 'Lotus Planting Guide' included with each lotus order!
