How to plant your lotus tuber

Choose a wide, shallow, no holes container for your Red Phillips Lotus. The container should be 24 - 48 inches wide or wider. Fill the container 2/3 full with loam soil. Dig a shallow trench across the surface of the soil and gently place the lotus tuber in the trench. Cover all but the growth tips with loam soil, leaving the growth tips exposed. Gently add 4 - 6 inches of water above the soil. Place your lotus container in a sunny area outdoors where it will receive 8 - 12 hours of sunlight daily. Do not fertilize until you have aerial leaves growing out of the water.

How to fertilize your lotus

Fertilize your lotus after you have aerial leaves. If you fertilize too soon you may burn the plant. We recommend a slow release fertilizer like Waterlily World Fertilizer Tabs for ease of use, optimum growth and best bloom. Simply press the tabs into the soil near the roots of your lotus, taking care not to damage the roots. Fertilize throughout the growing/blooming season and giving your last dose of fertilizer in early September. This will allow your lotus to go into dormancy naturally.
