Lotus Plant Description
Drop Blood Lotus has exotic, black buds that open to dreamy, red lotus blooms on this stunning, tall, multi-petal, sacred lotus. Golden-yellow receptacles and stamens along with handsome green foliage make a pleasing contrast. Drop Blood Lotus plants adds drama and excitement to your waterscape or when placed in large containers on your balcony, terrace or patio!
After all danger of frost has passed, plant your lotus tuber in a wide, (24 - 48" or wider) shallow, no-holes container using heavy loam soil. Fill the no-holes container 3/4 of the way with loam soil. Dig a trench across the surface of the soil and gently place your lotus tuber in the trench, being careful not to break or damage the growth tips. Cover all but the growth tips with an inch of soil while leaving the growth tips exposed. Add two to four inches of water above the tuber and place the container outdoors where it will receive 10 - 12 hours of sunlight daily. In a week or two you should have coin leaves on the surface of the water.
Lotus Fertilizing Instructions
Do not fertilize your lotus plants until you have aerial leaves growing out of the water. Once you have aerial leaves--you may fertilize with 3 - 4 fertilizer tabs once a month, throughout the growing/blooming season (June through September). We recommend Waterlily World Fertilizer Tabs + Humates for vigorous growth and best bloom!
