Lotus Planting Instructions

Wait to plant your lotus tuber until your nights are consistently 50 degrees or warmer and all danger of frost has passed. You will need a wide, (24 - 48" in diameter) no-holes container. Fill your lotus container about 3/4 full--using heavy loam soil. Dig a trench across the top of the soil and place your lotus tuber in the trench, being careful not to break or damage the growth tips. Cover all but the growth tips with an inch of soil and gently add two to four inches of water above the tuber.  Place the container where the lotus plant will receive at least 10 - 12 hours of sunlight per day. In a week or two you should have coin leaves on the surface of the water.

How And When To Fertilize Your Lotus

DO NOT fertilize until you have aerial leaves growing out of the water. Fertilize with three or four fertilizer tabs each month throughout the growing/blooming season, (June through September).

Lotus are very heavy feeders and need fertilizer to grow and bloom! We recommend Waterlily World Fertilizer Tabs + Humates for vigorous growth and best bloom!
