Lotus Plant Description
Star Of Yaochi Lotus (Yaochi Zhiyun) is a tall, elegant lotus plant with large, sumptuous, pink lotus flowers with stellate shape. Star Of Yaochi Lotus flowers are adorned with yellow-gold receptacles and attractive green foliage. This is a statuesque lotus plant growing 48 inches tall or taller when planted in very wide containers. Star Of Yaochi Lotus looks beautiful when planted in very large containers and placed on your balcony, deck or patio as well as in the shallow end of your pond.
How To Plant Your Lotus
This lotus, Star Of Yaochi Lotus, should be planted in a very wide, shallow, no holes container (24 - 48 inches wide or wider). Fill your container 2/3 full of loam soil. Dig a trench across the surface of the soil and gently place your lotus tuber in the trench. Cover all but the growth tips with an inch or two of soil, leaving the growth tips exposed. Add 4 - 5 inches of water above the soil and place your lotus in a sunny area outdoors. Lotus need 8 - 12 hours of sunlight daily to grow and bloom. Do not fertilize until you have aerial leaves growing out of the water. If you fertilize too early, you may stunt or kill your lotus.
How and When To Fertilize Your Lotus
Always wait until you have aerial leaves to fertilize your lotus plant. Lotus are heavy feeders, we recommend and use Waterlily World Fertilizer Tabs--a slow release fertilizer that will not add extra nutrients to the water, simply press the tabs into the soil near the roots of your lotus plant. The fertilizer will stay in the soil and bind to the clay elements in the soil, where the plant can access the nutrients from the fertilizer tabs as it grows. Waterlily World Fertilizer Tabs for optimum growth, best bloom and ease of use. Fertilize your Star Of Yaochi Lotus once each month with 4 - 5 fertilizer tabs, June through September, making September the last fertilizer application for the year.
