Shoot Fire Lotus

Lotus Plant Description

Shoot Fire Lotus is another beautiful lotus from the 'Old South Series'. Shoot Fire Lotus is an excellent red lotus with classic, single-petal lotus flowers. This exceptional lotus has beautiful form and lovely seed pods as well! Bright-yellow receptacles and buttery-yellow stamens add interest and the handsome green foliage complements this lotus nicely.

How to plant your lotus

Plant your lotus tuber in a wide, shallow, no holes container using loam soil. Fill the container 2/3 full with loam soil. Dig a shallow trench across the surface of the soil. Gently place the tuber in the trench, taking care not to break or damage the growth tips. Gover all but the growth tips with an inch or two of soil, leaving the growth tips exposed. Gently add 3 - 4 inches of water above the surface of the soil. Place the container in a sunny area outdoors. (Lotus need 8 - 12 hours of sunlight daily to grow and bloom.) Do not fertilize until you have aerial leaves growing out of the water.

When to fertilize your lotus plant

Once you have aerial leaves, you may begin to fertilize your lotus plant. We recommend a slow release fertilizer like Waterlily World Fertilizer Tabs for optimum growth, best bloom and ease of use. Simply press the tabs into the soil near the roots of your lotus, taking care not to damage the roots. Do this June through September, making September the last time you fertilize your lotus for the year.
