Lotus Planting Instructions

Plant your lotus in a wide, shallow, container using loam soil. Container should be 24 - 48 inches wide or wider. Fill your container 2/3 full with loam soil. Dig a trench on the surface of the soil and place the tuber in the trench, taking care not to break or damage the growth tips. Cover all but the growth tips with soil, leaving the growth tips exposed. Add 4 - 5 inches of water above the soil and place in a sunny location outdoors (8 - 12 hours of sunlight daily). In a week or two you will have coin leaves growing on the surface of the water. A week or two after that you will have aerial leaves growing out of the water. Once you have aerial leaves, you can begin to fertilize your lotus. We recommend Waterlily World Fertilizer Tabs for optimum growth and best bloom.

Lotus Fertilizing Instructions

Start fertilizing your lotus once you have aerial leaves growing out of the water. Begin with 1/2 dose of the recommended dosage. Two weeks after the first dose you may fertilize your lotus again with the recommended dose of fertilizer. Fertilize your lotus once each month with the recommended dose of fertilizer, finishing with the last dose of fertilizer in early September. This will allow your lotus to go into dormancy naturally. We recommend a slow release fertilizer like Waterlily World Fertilizer Tabs. Simply press the tabs into the soil near the roots of your lotus plants, taking care not to damage the roots.
