Lotus Planting Instructions

Plant this spectacular, tall specimen in a wide (24 - 48 inch or wider), shallow container using loam soil. Dig a trench across the surface of the soil and place your lotus tuber in the trench, being careful not to damage the growth tips. Gently pull some soil over the tuber while keeping the growth tips exposed. Add a few inches of water over the soil and place in a sunny location in your pond or on your patio, where it will receive at least 8 hours of sunlight. In a week or two, you will have coin leaves on the surface of the water. DO NOT fertilize until you have aerial leaves growing out of the water.

Lotus Fertilizing Instructions

Once you have aerial leaves growing out of the water, you may fertilize once a month with fertilizer tabbs. We recommend 4-6 fertilizer tabs each month during the growing and blooming season (June through September).

We recommend Waterlily World Fertilizer Tabs + Humates for optimal growth and best bloom! Gently push the fertilizer tabs one inch into the surface of the soil, being careful not to disturb the roots. Your lotus should grow and bloom the very first year!

Please Note:

Always plant your lotus tuber when days and nights are consistently warm, after all danger of frost has passed.

Lotus tubers may be stored in the crisper of your refrigerator until proper planting time for your area!

Don't fertilize your lotus too early, always wait until your lotus has aerial leaves before you fertilize your lotus!

Please see our 'Complete Lotus Guide' included with your lotus purchase.
