Lotus Plant Description
Yat Sen Lotus (Chinese: Yixian lian) has single-petal blooms that are held high above the beautiful green foliage. The flowers are in shades of soft, creamy-white and faintly tipped in pink. Yellow receptacles complement this flower nicely. The few petaled flowers on Yat Sen Lotus move gently in the breeze with flying/dancing form. Yat Sen Lotus was named for Sun Yat Sen, a Chinese philosopher and physician, and often referred to as the father of his country.
Lotus Planting Instructions
Plant in a 24-48 inches wide container (or wider), using heavy loam soil. Dig a trench in the soil and place your lotus tuber in the trench being careful not to break or damage the growth tips. Put shallow soil over the tuber being careful to keep the growth tips exposed. Gently add 4-6 inches of water above the soil and place the container where it will receive 8+ hours of direct sunlight daily. In a week or two you will have coin leaves growing on the surface of the water.
Lotus Fertilizing Instructions
DO NOT fertilizer until you have aerial leaves growing out of the water, then fertilize with 4-6 fertilizer tabs each month from June through September. Simply push the fertilizer tabs a few inches into the soil, being careful not to damage the roots.
Lotus are very heavy feeders, for robust plants and best bloom always fertilize during the growing/blooming months, (June through September). We recommend Waterlily World Fertilizer Tabs + Humates, an aquatic fertilizer designed for aquatic plants.
