Millenium White Lotus, (Formerly called White Thousand Petal Lotus but that name sounds as if it is a very high petal count plant, it is certainly not) (Bai Qianye) A dazzling, pure white lotus with rich golden centers. Flowers are marvelous and are sometimes semi -double or double. The seed pods are attractive as well. White Thousand Petal Lotus makes an excellent addition to your pond or container garden.
Plant in a wide, (24-48 inches or wider) shallow container using heavy loam soil with four to six inches of water above the soil and place in full sun.
Fertilize each month throughout the growing/blooming season (June through September) with four to six fertilizer tabbs.
Lotus are valuable as an ornamental flower as well as an edible vegetable, planting conditions for edible tubers are different than for flowers. When planting lotus for edible purposes, you must plant them in a large, shallow pond. Tubers must reach 2-4" in diameter for cooking purposes. Lotus can be found in many Asian dishes and recipes.
