Lotus Planting Instructions
Lotus should be planted in warm weather when the days and nights are consistently warm, after all danger of frost has passed. (Lotus can be stored in the crisper of your refrigerator until proper planting time in your area) Plant in a wide, shallow container using loam soil, dig a trench in the soil and place the lotus tuber in the trench taking care not to break or damage the growth tips. Cover the tuber with soil while leaving the growth tips exposed. Gently add 4 - 6 inches of water over surface of soil. Place in full sun outdoors. (Lotus need 8 - 12 hours of sunlight daily to grow and bloom.) Fertilize AFTER you have two aerial leaves growing out of the water.
Lotus Fertilizing Instructions
Lotus are very heavy feeders. Fertilizer once a month throughout the growing/blooming season with Waterlily World Fertilizer Tabs + Humates for optimum growth, best bloom and ease of use. Simply press the fertilizer tabs into the soil near the roots of your lotus taking care not to damage the roots. Your lotus should grow and bloom the very first year!
