Plant Description
RED Red River Lotus has fabulous blooms with deep, rich color and lovely shape! This is a dwarf-medium sized lotus that will look spectacular in your water garden setting. RED Red River Lotus looks great in containers or in shallow water at the edge of your pond! This is a dwarf-medium sized lotus with red multi-petal blooms.
How to plant your lotus
Choose a wide, shallow container (14 - 20 inches wide, or wider) with no holes to plant your RED Red River Lotus. Fill your container 2/3 full with loam soil. Dig a shallow trench on the surface of the soil and gently place your lotus tuber in the trench, taking care not to bruise or damage the growth tips. Cover all but the growth tips with soil, leaving the growth tips exposed. Add 3 - 4 inches of water above the lotus tuber and place the container in a sunny area outdoors (8 - 12 hours of sunlight daily). Do not fertilize until you have aerial leaves growing out of the water.
How to fertilize your lotus
Wait until you have aerial leaves to fertilize your lotus. If you fertilize too early you may burn your lotus. We recommend a slow release fertilizer like 'Waterlily World Fertilizer Tabs' for optimum growth, best bloom and ease of use. Simply press the tabs into the soil near the roots of your lotus, taking care not to damage the roots.
