Patricia Garrett Lotus is a beacon of joy with blooms held regally above the lush foliage in shades of cream, pink and yellow on this tall, versicolor, single-petal lotus! Receptacles are bright-yellow adding a sunny touch.Petals are lighter at the base and flowers are simply luminous and look as though they are lit from within! A HEAVY BLOOMING American specimen that has been around for several years. Blooms early in the season as well.
Plant in a wide (24-48 inches or wider), shallow container using heavy loam soil. Dig a shallow trench in the soil and gently place the lotus tuber in the trench, being careful not to damage the growth tips. Cover all but the growth tips with shallow soil and add a few inches of water above the soil. Place your lotus container in the shallow area of your pond or in a container on your patio where it will receive at least 8 hours of sunlight each day. DO NOT FERTILIZE! In a week or two you will have coin leaves growing on the surface of the water, soon you will have aerial leaves growing out of the water.
Once you have aerial leaves--you may fertilize your lotus with 4-6 fertilizer tabbs per month during the growing/blooming season (June through September). Simply push the fertilizer tabbs one inch into the soil, being careful not to damage the roots.
