Laura, the grower of our lotus, deemed this lotus BEST BLOOMER of the 2017 SEASON! Bloom after bountiful bloom, like the grand finale of a firework show! Light pink adorns the green buds and 1st day blooms have a soft blush of pink over the petals. Second and third day blooms are a lovely, crisp white with bright, sunny-yellow receptacles. The green foliage is grand and complements the flowers nicely. ORDER EARLY as this is sure to be a SELLOUT!!!
Plant this beautiful lotus in a wide (24-48 inches or wider), shallow container using heavy loam soil. Dig a trench in the soil and place your lotus tuber in the trench being careful not to break or damage the growth tips. Cover the tuber with soil while leaving the growth tips exposed. Add six inches of water above the soil and place your container in a sunny location outdoors. (Lotus need 8+ hours of sunlight daily to grow and bloom!) In a week or two you should have coin leaves growing on the surface of the water, a week or two after that you should have aerial leaves growing out of the water. Once you have aerial leaves, it is time to fertilize your lotus.
Lotus are very heavy feeders! We recommend Waterlily World Fertilizer Tabbs + Humates for optimum growth, best bloom and ease of use. Simply press four to six fertilizer tabbs into the soil near the roots of your lotus, being careful not to damage the roots. Do this once a month throughout the growing/blooming season (June through September). Your lotus should grow and bloom the very first year!
Alway plant your lotus by the month of May, after all danger of frost has passed. (Lotus tubers can be stored in the crisper of your refrigerator until proper planting time in your area.)
