How to plant your lotus
Plant your lotus tuber in a wide, shallow, no-holes container using loam soil. For tall lotus, you should use a container 24 - 48 inches wide or wider. Fill the container 2/3 full of loam soil. Dig a shallow trench across the surface of the soil and gently place the lotus tuber in the trench, taking care not to break or damage the growth tips. Cover the tuber with an inch or two of soil while leaving the growth tips exposed. Add 5 - 6 inches above the soil and place your lotus container in a sunny area outdoors where it will receive 8 - 12 hours of sunlight daily.
How to fertilize your lotus plants
Wait until you have aerial leaves growing out of the container to begin to fertilize your lotus plants. We recommend Waterlily World Fertilizer Tabs for optimum growth and best bloom for your lotus plants. For the first dose of fertilizer, we recommend 1/2 the recommended dosage. You can fertilize your lotus two weeks after the first dose of fertilizer with the recommended dosage. After the second dose of fertilizer, fertilize your lotus once each month during the growing/blooming season. The last dose of fertilizer should be administered in early September. This will allow your lotus plants to go into dormancy naturally.
