Lotus Planting Instructions
Plant your lotus tuber in a wide, shallow, no-holes container (24 - 48 inches wide or wider) using loam soil. Fill your lotus container 2/3 full using loam soil. Dig a shallow trench on the surface of the soil and gently place your lotus tuber in the trench, taking care not to damage or break the growth tips. Cover the lotus tuber with an inch or two of soil while keeping the growth tips exposed. Gently add 4 - 5 inches of water above the soil and place your lotus container in a sunny area outdoors (8 - 12 hours of sunlight daily). In a week or two you should have coin leaves on the surface of the water. A week or two after that you should have aerial leaves growing out of the water. Once you have aerial leaves, it is time to fertilize your lotus. We recommend Waterlily World Fertilizer Tabs for best bloom and optimum growth. Never disturb your lotus plant once it has begun to grow!
Fertilize your lotus with 1/2 dose of the recommended dosage of fertilizer. Two weeks after the first dose, you may fertilize your lotus again using the recommended dosage. Fertilize your lotus once each month throughout the growing/blooming season (June through September) with the last dose in early September. This will allow your lotus to go into dormancy naturally.
