Delicate, pink-on-pink striping throughout the petals on this classic, single petal lotus. This HEAVY BLOOMER has clear-pink flowers that bloom early and often throughout the summer and into fall. Bright-yellow receptacles and a fringe of bright-yellow stamens, along with attractive green foliage makes a perfect complement to this heavenly specimen. Goddess of Lou River Lotus looks great in ponds, containers or layered in front of taller lotus specimens! A perfect addition to your water garden feature!
Plant in wide (18-30 inches or wider), shallow container using heavy loam soil. Dig a trench across the surface of the soil and place the lotus tuber in the trench, being careful not to damage the growth tips. Add an inch of soil over the tuber while keeping the growth tips exposed. Add two or three inches of water above the soil and place the container outside in a sunny location. (Lotus need 8+ hours of sunlight per day) In a week or two you will have coin leaves growing on the surface of the water, do not fertilize until you have aerial leaves growing out of the water.
Once you have aerial leaves, you may fertilize with 4 fertilizer tabbs per month throughout the growing/blooming season, (June through September). Simply press the fertilizer tabbs one inch into the soil, being careful not to damage the roots.
Lotus are very heavy feeders! We recommend Waterlily World Fertilizer Tabbs+Humates for best bloom and vigorous growth. Your lotus should GROW and BLOOM the very first year!
IMPORTANT TIP! Lotus should be planted in the month of May, after all danger of frost has passed.
